Once again, the Taiko Drummers celebrated the July 4th weekend with an uplifting concert at the Windham Civic Center. The community event was funded by the Windham Chapter Foundation. OMNY, which stands for “One Miracle in New York,” was formed 7 years ago as a part of Shumei’s art and beauty initiatives to engage youth in New York City. For the past three years, the Taiko drummers, led by Taiko Master Koji Nakamura, has held a residency at the Sugar Maples Center for the Performing Arts in Maplecrest. The experience comes together with a community concert. “The concert is unbelievable,” said one local enthusiast. It is so uplifting and energizing.” The spirit of the drums speaks for themselves. “When we play taiko, we All become One to unite the heartbeat of All,” said Lin Tan OMNY coordinator and drummer.
